Alter do Chão is a small town on the Rio Tapajos, Brazil. The former fishing village is located just 40 miles from Santarem, and is a popular seaside resort. Lago Verde, a special natural spectacle, is situated in the town: the lake's water changes colour throughout the day, from a deep blue to emerald-green.

The Devil's Island lies 13km off the coast of French Guiana in South America and became well known in 1973 when the movie "Papillon" with Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen was released.
