Svolvaer is the largest town in the Lofoten Islands with about 4000 inhabitants. The town's landmark is the Svolværgeita mountain, which has two pinnacles. The inhabitants live mainly from fishing cod.

As a sidearm of the Raftsund, Trollfjord separates the two Norwegian archipelagos of Lofoten and Vesterålen. The Trollfjord takes its name from the Norwegian mythical creatures, the trolls.
