The Pacific town of Callao is located in the Lima metropolitan region just ten miles west of the Peruvian capital. The present inhabitants are for the most part descendants of the famous mutiny on the Bounty, where some of the crewship overthrew their Lieutenant and then sailed on the HMS Bounty ship to the Picairn Islands. Fakarava covers an area of approximately 1,200 square kilometers and is located just 490km northeast of Tahiti. The area has been named as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and is home to a number of rare animals and plants which are protected by the reserve. The main village in Fakarava is Rotoava.
