The Hardanger fjord is about 160 km long and lies on the southwestern coast of the Atlantic in Norway. The island is in the middle of the fjord Varaldsøy. The province around the Hardanger fjord is county of Hordaland. The deepest part of the Hardanger fjord is 725 m deep.

The city, which gives the name of this fjord, lies directly to this fjord and measures at its lowest point at 617 meters Agdenes. The largest islands in the fjord are Ytterøy and Tautra.
