Santiago is one of those cities where the more you look, the more you find. Santiago hosts 40% of the country's population and has become a cultural centre with breathtaking natural beauty in the vicinity. Santiago lies in the center of the Santiago Basin, a valley surrounded by mountain ranges. The city has a varying elevation, towards the west it is 400m above sea level whereas at the Plaza Baquedano it comes to 540m.

The port city of Puerto Montt is situated between the Andes mountains and the Patagonian fjords. Its location offers both locals and visitors amazing panoramas of the surrounding wilderness, such as views of the active volcano Calbuco. Local seafood is served up in the city, and handicrafts can be purchased at the market right at the port. Just outside of city limits is the Caleta de Angelmó Market.

The city sits on the banks of the Strait of Magellan, the most important natural passage connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Punta Arenas attracts many nature lovers as the city acts as a springboard into the local wilderness and Antarctica. The city boasts a memorial to the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan at Plaza Muñoz Gamero.
