The island of Bequia, which lies in the Caribbean Sea, is part of the State of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. About 5,000 people live on the island and the official language is English. The name of the island, which translates as 'Island of Clouds', comes from the language of the Arawak, the indigenous people of Bequia. Port Elizabeth is the capital of the island and, with its large marina, is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. Many cruises start around the Grenadines.
