Thira is a Greek island located on the South Aegean Volcanic Belt. In the western part of the island, one sees clearly that is the remnant of a volcano. The crater rim, and other spectacular sights, testify to the volcanic eruption that occurred about 1600 years BC. The inhabited parts of the island are known for their beautiful white villages with colorful shutters and blue domes.
