The Sicilian town of Taormina was destroyed by the Arabs in the ancient world and had to be re-built in the Middle Ages. The mild climate and many tourist attractions such as the ancient theater, built by the Romans, make Taormin a magnet for tourists. In addition, the city offers an excellent view of Mount Etna.
Valletta, Malta's capital and World Heritage Site, is located on the northeast coast of the island on a narrow headland. The smallest capital of the EU is a living reflection of Baroque architecture.
