The inhabited parts of the island are known for their beautiful white villages with colorful shutters and blue domes. Monemvasia is located on a rock off the coast of Laconia. The Greek town was once a fortress and thus an important base. Settlement on the rocks began in 583 so Monemvasia is very rich in cultural treasures and historic sites.
